Chapter 4

"Kring kring. Kring Kring."

Brian was a bit startled, as heard his cellular phone ring, in the middle of that evening. He had just finished having dinner with his parents. Now, he was inside his room, busy studying for his exams for Math tommorow. Given that this was the subject he struggled the most, Brian had been focused on what he was doing. The sudden noise of the cell phone, of course, broke the silence in the room, as well as his focus.

He looked at the cellphone before reaching it, which was laying on the the table he was studying on. Brian picked it up and looked at the screen of the phone, wondering who was calling him at this time.

"Marc Santos" the screen read.

Chapter 3

It was the next morning, and Brian woke up from a very good night's sleep - even if he ended up sleeping late. He was able to finish all his needed homework, study for the Social Studies exam later, and had glee club practice later in the day.

Singing is one of Brian's passion ever since he was a lot younger. He was not very sports-oriented at the time, so for Brian, his release and means of expression had always been music. It was adamant to him that he wanted to be a singer/performer when he grows up; and he knew that the weekly glee club practice would help him achieve that goal this early.

Being in the very good mood that he was in, Brian was happily humming randomly as he walked towards the main entrance of the school building. He had his back up on his shoulders, and was moving his head from side to side - to the rhythm of the humming he was doing.

Brian was just a couple of meters away from the entrance, when all of a sudden, he felt a loud force push him from behind. The next thing that he knew, Brian found himself lying on the gravel floor, his arm instinctively protecting his head from hitting the floor.

Chapter 2

8:30 PM
20213 Westwood Drive, South Executive Village

"It was a very long meeting." Martin Fernandez thought as he opened the front door of his large, two floor minimalist-designed mansion. It was the home that he shared with his wife, Angela, and his only child, Brian, which had a spacious backyard with a pool and a jacuzzi, as well as a billiard pool area in the middle of the ground floor.

Martin is a mid-40 year old Filipino executive with Spanish decent. A tall, handsome man with full black hair with gray hair highlights on the side, Martin regularly works out and plays golf with his colleagues and friends. Angela, on the other hand, is almost the same as Martin, though due to her Chinese blood, she looks younger than her age. She loves dressing up well, even if she only works at home, handling her own business of selling jewelries.

Tired as he was, he loosened the knot of his necktie and moved his head around to relax a bit.Being the COO of the company he inherited from his father, every day for Michael had been stressful - considering he had to contend to the expectations left to him by the board and his father himself.

He had also felt bad that he had to have his only son ride a cab home, knowing that it was raining very hard the whole day. However, Martin was left with no other choice. His clients for a very important business deal called for an urgent call that he could not refuse or re-schedule. Given that it had almost been two hours since he had told Brian to take a cab, Martin was expecting that his only son was already home.

He was a couple of steps away from his home office, when he heard his lovely wife, Angela, call him. "Martin?"

Martin stopped on his tracks and turned around, seeing his wife walking towards him. Tired as he was, he tried to smile before giving a soft kiss in the lips of his wife. "How's your day, honey?"

"It was fine." Angela replied, softly patting Martin's shoulders, as he looked straight towards the eyes of her husband. "I've already had them have your dinner ready."

Angela paused, as she looked behind her then around them. "Where's Brian?"

Chapter 1

August 2012

It was mid-afternoon inside one of the largest malls in the metropolis of Manila. Given that it was a holiday, almost all the floors of the mall were crowded of people. It was a mix of people really: families, group of friends, students, workmates. Each of them has their own respective reasons to be in the mall at that fateful afternoon.

On the ground floor of the mall was the video and music store. The store had seen its peak earlier in the day, and at this time, only a few people were in. It was a mix of people shopping or glancing through the available records or videos.

One of those people glancing through the videos was Brian Fernandez, a senior manager in one of the biggest travel agencies in Manila. Well, used to be one, that is. It was his first week after he left his work, and he had a list of things to do urgently.
